This sash is hand-made on a loom using alpaca wool. It's origins trace back to circa 1885, the time of the Battle of Batoche. This sash is a Métis version of the L'Assomption sash with a black border replacing the red in order to represent the 'Dark Times".  This period started around 1870-1885 when the Métis were considered "traitors" and had to hide their identity for over a hundred years.
